Thamizh is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language action drama film writt and directed by Hari, in his directorial debut and produced by Amudha Durairaj. The film stars Prashanth and Simran in the lead roles, while Vadivelu, Urvashi, Nassar, Ashish Vidyarthi and Livingston portray supporting roles. Featuring music composed by Bharadwaj, the film oped to positive reviews upon release in 14 April 2002 and became a commercial success.

Anbazhagan returns home from Kuwait after not seeing his family for three years. He reunites with his wife Kalaichelvi, his mother and his two childr. He is waiting for his younger brother Thamizh and asked his mother and Kalaichelvi where he is, yet both of them has avoided the question. Meanwhile, outside there was a riot happing outside their house and their neighbour Moorthy happed to be the victim alongside his pregnant sister. This has be stopped by Thamizh who has beat up his goons. Anbazhagan realised how changed Thamizh was because he has become more violt. This leads to a flashback of how he became who he is.

Narasimha (2001 Film)

Thamizh leads a happy life with his mother and sister-in-law Kalaichelvi. Anbazhagan is working in Kuwait, and he too dreams of joining him there. Meakshi, their tant, and Thamizh fall in love. There are two gangs in his area, one lead by Periyavar, a geriatric, and Rathnam. During Deepavali, wh the goons of Periyavar injure Thamizh's niece, he stops Periyavar's car on the road and questions him. He th beats up one of Periyavar's goons wh insulted. This makes him Periyavar's target, and though he tries to withdraw from the violce, he is forced to join forces with Rathnam, Periyavar's sworn emy, and evtually defeats him.

The film marked the debut of director Hari, who earlier worked as an assistant director to K. Balachander, while Prashanth agreed to work in the film in early 2001.

The film's title of Thamizh was giv by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who also helped create the film's logo for Deivanai Movies.

Simran was selected as heroine pairing with Prashanth, for fourth time after successful collaborations in Kannedhirey Thondrinal (1998), Jodi (1999) and Parth Rasith (2000). Actress Mamta Kulkarni was also attached to the project, but evtually did not feature.

The team had worked on pre-production for close to a year and the script was ready prior to the start of the shoot, with Hari revealing he was inspired by the 1989 Malayalam film Kireedam.

For his role, Prashanth worked out at the gym, grew a beard and began smoking cigarettes to get into character. Shooting commced in Chnai and proceeded in locations like Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi. Sces were also shot in Sikkim, reportedly becoming the first time that a Tamil film is shot there. A few sces were also later picturised on Prashanth, Charlie, Vadivelu, and Crane Manohar in Karaikudi.

The similarities of title and release date betwe Thamizh and Vijay-starrer Thamizhan created confusion with the producers of both films unable to accommodate any changes.

Made at a cost of ₹20 million, the film failed to get a distributor before release due to competition from other films, so producer Amudha Durairaj marketed the vture herself.

The film gained positive reviews upon release, with a critic noting the debutant director has wov an action packed tertainer and has etched out the roles well.

The film score and the soundtrack were composed by Bharadwaj in his first collaboration with director Hari. Vasanth (Prashanth) is a post-graduate studt and son of the wealthy MP Gajapathy (Raghuvaran). Gajapathy is a sior leader in a religion based National party and acts against inter-faith marriage. Vasanth lives a fun-filled life in Chnai, until he meets a girl (Rinke Khanna) wh they both rush to save a baby who was about to fall in a railway track. He develops an attraction for that girl and again meets her in his college. He learns that her name is Hea, a Bgali girl whose father was a tamilian, and she has come for an exchange program. Meanwhile, terrorists plot to kill MP Gajapathy in an explosion at a public gathering. Hea, who was on an education trip to Chnai, searched for some books in a bookshop. Since a book was not available that day she has to return to the shop. While leaving the shop a sound comes from her watch alarm in her bag, which she jokes is a bomb that will destroy everything in 2 km radius. The shopkeeper laughs at her joke.

Hea returns to the shop, near where a public meeting is conducted. As planned by terrorists, a bomb explodes, but Gajapathy is only wounded. The shopkeeper immediately decides Hea is the terrorist because of the joke she made during her last visit. Also, the circumstantial evidce is against her. Hce, the police and Gajapathy's m search for her, but Hea escapes. Meanwhile, Vasanth hits one of the terrorists accidtally and finds bombs in his bags. He immediately chases the terrorist, but the terrorist kills himself using poison wh the police catch him.

Hea hides in a house that turns out to be the palatial house of Vasanth. Vasanth finds her in the backyard and takes her to his room. Hea dies the charge against her. Vasanth assures her that he believes her and he has to sd her back to Kolkata. Vasanth helps her by keeping her in his room without the knowledge of his parts. Both develop an attraction for each other, but Vasanth is ke on sding her home. Hea finds out that he is the son of the man, whom she is charged for attempted murder. Vasanth takes her to the railway station in the midst of a cyclone and sds her to her home in Kolkata.

A week later, Vasanth lies to his parts that he is going for a vacation computer course in Mumbai and leaves for Kolkata along with his frid Ganesh, to find Hea knowing only her name. He searches for her in many colleges and finally finds her. She is happy to see Vasanth again and takes him to her home and introduces him to her mother (Rati Agnihotri) while her brother left before his arrival.

Badri (2001 Film)

It is revealed that her brother (Sonu Sood) is the mastermind in the plot to kill Gajapathy, which is not known by his family. He learns about the arrival of Vasanth and plans to kill him, without knowing he saved his sister. Both Vasanth and Hea become close which is disliked by her mother. She urges Hea to keep away from him which disappoints Hea. Vasanth expresses his love for her. Hea finds out the real idtity of her brother and fears that he might kill Vasanth and so she pretds to reject him. Vasanth is hurt by her rejection but does not back off, hoping to win her love one day.

Hea informs Gajapathy about all the incidts and makes him come to Kolkata to take away his son. Gajapathy comes there, and insists that Vasanth come with him, and he unwillingly accepts. Hea's brother learns about Vasanth and Gajapathy and chases after them to kill them. Hea struggles to save them, but Vasanth does not co-operate with her as he wants her to accept him. Hea finally confesses her love and reveals that her behavior is because of her brother's true idtity and inttions, which shatters Hea's mother. She unites both of them and asks them to leave the place. Both get into the running train in the nick of time before Hea's brother catches them. He is arrested by police. The
